Soul Candles for the Days of Awe: Flower Edition

I followed the plants, letting them guide my wicks. I welcome you to pray with me: 

We begin with Plantain

Robin Wall Kimmerer gave us the teaching that to be a good settler, be like plantain (genus name Plantago, from the Latin word for “sole of the foot.”) Plantain is introduced to Turtle Island but does not take over or choke out other plants, she spreads in moderation hugging the ground while offering her common accessible medicine of tissue regeneration and wound healing.   

May the root of our healing from white supremacy be guided by plantain, may those of us not from these lands be good settlers like plantain, a foundation at our feet. #LandBack

Which brings us to Thyme

Thyme is an ancestral healing herb for Europe and the SWANA region. The essence of thyme gives us a psychic portal to connect and receive messages from our ancestors-opening our lungs, flavoring our days and invigorating our minds. 

May we breathe in the scent of thyme to remind us we are beyond our ancestors' wildest dreams. May we feel our lungs expand, and our ancestors' hands on our backs giving us strength to dismantle colonial systems. #FuckICE #CutTiesWithGenocide

And then to Lady’s Mantle 

This plant who collects dew at dawn on her leaf tips like tiny gems is a womb healer, balancing gynecological conditions. The place where humans begin life. We collectively need healing to remember the vulnerability of who we once were, beings growing through cell division, dependent on another for home and life. 

May we feel held in our vulnerable natures, embracing the wonder of life, unfurling in our natural creative state and may all beings know home.  #FREETHEMALL

Ending with Motherwort then wrapping back to plantain to complete our prayer.

Motherwort gives us the strength of a lion’s heart, a diasporic plant who has roamed the world, she won’t be caged. She supports us to downshift when aggravated soothing and comforting us in earthly pleasures. 

May our fascist governments de-escalate the over reactivity of top down structures and may we be steady and courageous in our rage and bitterness. May our wild natures lead us to an unknown future filled with justice, kindness and love. #FREEPALESTINE #FREECONGO #EARTHLIBERATION
