Rooting deep to remember the truth of who we are.
Many of our diasporic, earth-based practices and ancient earth-based orientations to life and spirit were lost through the foray into patriarchy, zionism and nationalism. Palestinian liberation is giving us guidance to find our way back to an integritous Judaism and with that, to heal the soul of Judaism.
Zionism, like all colonialism, tears our sense of belonging to the earth. We are in need of repair. Part of that repair comes from the decades-long resistance ritual we are in, the embrace of intersectional liberation struggles. We know the violence of zionism perpetuates a cycle of trauma leaving death and destruction in its wake. We hope we can heal Judaism through our work for Palestinian liberation.
We attempt to re-enchant Judaism through this collective work and regardless, when we commit to collective liberation, we weave ourselves back into a sense of belonging.
The spiritual repair we are seeking also requires we remember and renew Jewish earth based practices pre-patriarchy and all the practices that followed those threads, never forgetting the divine feminine, the sacredness of soil, kept alive in homes, baked into bread and woven into seams, suppressed by zionism and allegiance to capitalism.
In this workshop we will build community, learn, renew and practice these ritual arts, using our bodies to create beautiful sacred objects and tools like incantation bowls, anointing oils, herbal remedies. We will cultivate our relationships with plants of the diaspora, build our intuition, revere our ancestors and nourish ourselves by being together to continue to endure and make ceremony in service to collective liberation.
Zionism is a deep cut in our Jewish souls. We deserve the dignity of building new foundations based in resistance and resilience with our ancestors' hands at our backs.
In this workshop/ritual you will:
experience a communal connection with earth based practices through song and community building
physically create ritual tools of ancient magic & folk practices
collective ritual and prayer-towards healing collectively with a focus on Palestine

This is part of a series with Rosa Blumenfeld-Romero to decolonize Judaism. Rosa provides a theoretical framework for historical roots of the colonization of Judaism and behavior change based in indigenous orientation to right relationship. This series of 6 classes will be with Rebekah. Rosa's workshop series is separate but works in tandem with these teachings. We will let you know more about her class if you are interested.
Please know if you have already taken the Jewish Magic, Healing and Art series there is a little bit of overlap. However, this class is quite different as it is much more relational and oriented towards community building. The making of ritual objects will also be specifically dedicated towards Palestinian liberation.
