The Asherah Pole: An Ancient Bridge to Our Future Liberation
Even before Abraham (the first “Jew”) ancient Jews spirituality was intrinsically connected to the earth. The Asherah Pole is a symbol of that connection. Discovered in burial grounds and ceremonial sites through archeological findings, the Asherah pole signified a core aspect of ancient spirituality. A pole between the stars and earth, a tree.
Wherever Jews have landed, the teachings of the Asherah Pole, came with us. The Torah, our central text speaks to the tree of life, the rabbi’s and later the kabbalists expanded on these teachings, inviting us into esoteric and somatic experiences of the tree as our spiritual conductor between earth and sky, the life essence who supports our belonging and responsibilities to living well on earth.
There is so much intelligence in our bodies capitalism and colonialism have conspired for us to suppress. This has led to current crisis within our communities, where many have been so indoctrinated by zionism, they have forgotten the essential teachings of the Asherah Pole: that true integrity comes from solidarity and liberation is only achieved when we open our hearts to remember we are all one. This workshop invites us to partner with a lineage of teachings to heal our inherent connection with earth, root ourselves in resistance work and extend our branches to meet our souls calling.
If you have been struggling to find energy to keep engaging in activism, if you have felt shame for being Jewish in the face of zionism, if you are curious about mystical Judaism, if you have lost touch with the gems of earth based spirituality: this workshop is for you.
By engaging in physical practices that are accessible to all bodies, meditation, teachings and group sharing, you will begin to tap into felt sensations of connection and belonging, gifts from the trees & gifts from your ancestors.
